Viré Clessé is a relatively new appellation of southern Burgundy, in the Macon region. The two hillsides are well-drained and east-facing. The rocks are fossiliferous limestone and strata of marly-limestone with white limestone pebbles. It is the best soil for the Chardonnay grape.
