Description

Viré Clessé is a relatively new appellation of southern Burgundy, in the Macon region. The two hillsides are well-drained and east-facing. The rocks are fossiliferous limestone and strata of marly-limestone with white limestone pebbles. It is the best soil for the Chardonnay grape. Wine Enthusiast, 86/100: “This is a spicy, fresh wine with fragrant acidity. It’s crisply fruity with balanced acidity and deliciously aromatic. With its ripe apricot flavors, this wine is ready to drink.” Jancis Robinson, 16.5/20: "A little richer and more buttery than other Macon, with the oak a touch more evident but not dominant. Delicious depth of creamy texture and melon fruit. Long and with an attractive grip on the finish."
